The Historical Society of Martin County ‘s historical collections span a wide range of irreplaceable artifacts, including heirlooms, correspondence, photographs, maps, art, clothing, baseball memorabilia, inventions and more.
If you have an item of historical significance that you would like to have considered for acquisition by the Historical Society, the item should be:
-
relevant to and consistent with the museum’s mission and collections (i.e., dated prior to 1925 and related to the history of Martin County, the Elliott family and/or local inventors and innovators),
-
offered as an unrestricted donation with a free and clear title,
-
authenticated to the best of our ability,
-
acquired ethically and legally, and
-
of satisfactory or better condition.
The Acquisition Committee is responsible for accepting and reviewing all artifact donations. We accept only those items that we can safely store, protect and preserve under conditions that are in keeping with professionally recognized standards.
Once accepted, your donation will remain a permanent part of the Historical Society’s collection as long as it retains its physical integrity, identity and authenticity and is of continuing use to the museum.
To learn more about artifact donation, contact the Historical Society’s Curator, Janel Hendrix, at janelh@elliottmuseumfl.org, or call 772-225-1961, ext. 105.
