Location

The wreck of the Georges Valentine is situated approximately 100 yards east from the south wall of the House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar in Stuart, Florida.  It is partially buried in sand and is broken into five prominent sections.  Details of the wreckage sections and their coordinates follow:

The boiler and remains of the deck, about 57” in length, with 8’ of broken mast, including a 12’ x 12’ tile of floor aft of the boiler.  Coordinates 27° 11.93N X 080.09.88W.

A 65’ section of iron hull, about 16’ in height, located approximately 80 yards east of the boiler section.  Coordinates 21° 11.93N X 080.09.83W.

Hull wreckage and two broken sections of steel mast, one 10’ and the other, located north of the hull, 19’ in length.  Site also includes a 100’ section of the keel and ribs, east of the hull.  A large debris field extends about 80’ to the south and 60’ east and west.  Hull plates are approximately 130’ south of the largest hull section at coordinates 27° 11.91N X 080.09.83W.

A crane located 40’ south of the hull plates at 27° 11.90N X 080.09.83.

Remnants of mast, 19’ in length, located approximately 495’ south of the House of Refuge.  Due east of this artifact in the surf zone is an iron framework about 60’ long by 24’ wide, along with another section of broken mast at coordinates 27° 11.89N X 080.09.87.
