Volunteer Options

We look forward to meeting with you and learning about your interests, skills and availability. If an appropriate volunteer placement at our organization is not available at this time, we will keep your application in our files for a period of 6 months and contact you when a position becomes available.

  • Reception, Elliott Museum: Greet visitors and provide general information, while assisting the office staff.
  • Gift Shop, Elliott Museum: Staff our gift shop and assist visitors with their purchases. Retail experience is helpful but not necessary.
  • Reception/Gift Shop, House of Refuge Museum: Greet visitors, answer questions about the history of the House of Refuge and assist in the gift shop.
  • Car Gallery: An ideal opportunity for car buffs and experienced mechanics. Assist in the upkeep of the vehicles, and provide visitor tours.
  • Tour Docent, Elliott Museum and House of Refuge Museum: Provide personal tours of our museums, for adults, children and various tour groups. Docents are also often on hand during regular museum hours to answer general questions. Training is provided.
  • Costume Assistant: Help to maintain our collection of authentic vintage clothing. Experienced tailors are also needed to create reproduction costumes.
  • Curatorial/Archival Assistant: Assist behind the scenes with the maintenance of our archival library and museum artifacts.
  • Educational Programming: Docents, teachers and actors that want to provide more than a routine tour are encouraged to assist with specialty tours and outside speaking engagements. Training is provided.
  • Office/Clerical Assistant: Your clerical and computer expertise is always appreciated!
  • Special Events: Help with set-up and clean-up for our special events; prepare and serve hors d’oeuvres; greet guests and provide docent services. Special events volunteers are also needed for our children’s programs.
