About Us

The Historical Society of Martin County owns and operates the Elliott Museum, which displays and maintains one of the most comprehensive collections of Americana in South Florida. The Elliott Museum, while not solely a car museum, boasts an extensive collection of rare classic cars and vintage vehicles. It also pays tribute to Sterling Elliott, a prolific inventor whose work had a major impact on U. S. history.

The Historical Society also provides curator and management services for the House of Refuge Museum at Gilbert’s Bar, the last remaining House of Refuge in the Country.

We’re here to serve you: to answer questions about Treasure Coast history and historic inventions; provide you with research access to our comprehensive archives; and offer an interesting and varied slate of educational programming, exhibits and workshops.

The Historical Society of Martin County is a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. We rely on the generosity of our donors, members and volunteers to bring history alive for today’s generation.

We invite you to join us! Become a member today, and enjoy valuable benefits, including discounts, free admission and advance notice of special events. We look forward to seeing you soon!
